Platypus Zorro

We went to Drink n' Draw again last night. Very fun.
This was from the night of Drink 'n' Draw, but not from being there. I drew this when we got home. From Tiny Owl Knits again, this is a fake tiny fox stole!
Abe requested a platypus Zorro so I drew this at the thing last night. I was having a hard time getting inspired last night. Sigh.
This was the first thing I doodled at Drink 'n' Draw last night. Started looking more like a Boston Terrier and turned more into a slug.
Practice for a comic I might do. Actually, I did do one tonight. I guess I can admit it is auto bio, but I am not sure if it is something I will actually put up. I will play with it for a while and see how it goes. After looking at these, I think I kind of look like a librarian. I think it is the glasses/cardigan combo.

First 2012 night of drink and draw

Second Drink 'n' Draw of 2012 and we made it to our first one of the year! We hope to go pretty much every week. It is fun and the people sure are nice. So some of the following are from Drink 'n' Draw. FYI, Pike Place Kilt Lifter (Scottish Ale).
Weird doodle of something during Drink 'n' Draw. I used to draw stuff like this all the time (using ballpoint pen in my class notes). Maybe I will do some high school posts so I can review them and get inspired. I cut them out and kept them. I just need to find where they are stored.
Last drawing in my sketch pad. This is the first sketch pad I had to buy since I started using them again. I had a bunch of partially finished ones from high school that I finally finished a few months ago and now I have another complete one already!
I finally found the photo of the aerialist painting I did for my brother, Isaac, so I wanted to do another drawing. Found this on google search. I actually did this one on Tuesday.
This is the first drawing I completed at Drink 'n' Draw last night. I started others and did some character sketches, but the sketches were in pencil and our scanner is too lame to catch pencil now. We really need to get a new one. Anyways, this is practice for a story I am going to do soon. I don't know if this is what the character will look like. His head reminds me of Roka in Runners and I feel like I am ripping him off everytime I look at him. But when I actually compare, they are pretty different.
And this was the first drawing I started at Drink 'n' Draw. But I didn't like the original golem - he looked like the purple McDonald's guy. So I did some practice and came back to this.
These inks, except the rabbit guy, are all done using those great ink brushes Abe got me for Xmas. I am loving it. Really.

Drink and Draw sketches

Abe and I finally got to go to drink and draw last night. So I drew. We were all alone at first - we were upstairs and everyone else was downstairs. So I drew this.
Then we moved over to the table when other people came upstairs and had some great conversations that seemed to revolve a lot around pasties - not the British food.

I love that weird rabbit fella. Abe asked if he was my spirit animal. It is pencil, so it isn't really that dark, but it is hard to see at the light pencil color on a computer screen.

Then I couldn't think of anything to draw towards the end, and ended up with this poor fella.

Abe and I went to our second Drink-n-Draw last night. People ran away from our quiet creepy presence. We'll get better at being social as we continue to go. We missed last week because Abe was sick. Anyways, one of the fellas brought in some paper he got with a taco. I made this comic out of it.
Then I actually got drawing. The first thing (and best thing) I drew was the weird long-necked guy on the left.
Then I drew the little fella and some sort of muppet guy.
It was pretty fun. I even had a pint of Pike Place Kilt Lifter. Yum.

Drink 'n' Draw

Abe and I went to our first normally scheduled Drink 'n' Draw. Pretty fun, even though we came too late to get a good seat and ended up sequestered on a lonely couch that faced the same model TV that we have at home. First was the pig girl with mohawk and sideburn ponytails. There was also a sweet little Boston Terrier running around which inspired the little dog fella.
I realized I had been drawing hooves (the frog pony was first drawn on this page) because I am no good at hands and feet. So I drew a foot. I also started drawing what I thought my new glasses were going to look like before I picked them up. And Abe wanted to see Georgie's parents and Wellington's sisters (yes, The Jerks).

Abe didn't have his stupid mechanical pencil, so he ended up writing comic notes/stories most of the night, but  because of that he wanted to see some pictures of the Jerks to see that I could do it: Arthur blowing a raspberry, Georgie flipping someone off, Georgie smoking a cigar, Georgie from the side,  Georgie and Arthur bowling, a porcupine character for a Jerks Adventures story, Georgie splashing in water (I assumed happily, but it turns out he wanted scared).
I also drew Arthur and Georgie at different ages (sorry they are sideways). And some weird fish fella whose fin has been ripped off.
It was really fun and I look forward to going again. 4 pages of doodles is pretty good for me. And we get to meet other cartoonists. It was too bad we came too late to hang out in a section with other people, but we did get to talk to Adam a little, who we met at the ECCC version of the Drink 'n' Draw. I also passed around a copy of Hardly Kind, but I wasn't near anyone who read it so I don't know any reactions. The fella who returned the copy to me said he liked it, so that's something.

Drink and Draw, ECCC edition

Sketches from my first drink and draw Friday night at Von's Roasthouse. I did not get much drawing done. I have a hard time drawing in public. Probably because everyone else is so much more awesome. So here we have some sketches in preparation for a Jerks story and just some other stuff.
On that last one, that is so washed out, there is the original Dude and updated Dude on the left and how I drew when I was very little on the right.
In other news, I finally got an artist's desk. It is nice and big and I can leave my stuff out. It has 6 small drawers and trays on both sides. Sometime I might even put pictures of it up.
