Here are a set of tests I did to determine teh style I would use for the COB graphic novel I am working on. COB is the working title.

Nadine Reading
Nadine reading by ~lunavalse on deviantART
I will try to post more regularly. But I am in charge of my own scans sometimes, now. Can't do the watercolor ones on my own because the scans ruin them. But I did get those acrylic inks that I love, and those seem to scan ok.

Superhero Woman
So here is a sketvh dump, a bit. Now that Abe has a job, it is harder to get him to do my bidding, so I guess I will have to scan in my own art. Though if I want good ones of my color art, he will still need to do it.
Here is a first attempt at drawing Superhero Woman and Sidekick Dog, a pair I made up in high school or junior high. I liked the idea of super heroes, but the only ladies ones I knew, I didn't like. Wonder Woman was too scantily clad and I only knew the movie version of Batgirl. So I made up my own. It had a much more literal style. Less violence and darkness. Superhero girl was me, der, and Sidekick Dog was my dog, Patience. Their nemesis was Madame Nutmeg (or something) after my mom's cat. Not that I had anything against poor Nutmeg, but we needed a villain. I even made us outfits with blankets for capes and cut up old socks for masks. Her name wasn't Patience for nuthin'. She also had little shorts and I wore my converse. We would run around our property all dressed up. Not much because it is kind of cumbersome to run around the woods in a blanket cape and Patience did have a limit.
Here's some standard fare Sartorialist drawing. I keep trying for more cartoony style. It is difficult.
And some practice for the story I am working on with the working title COB. This is a scan of copic markers, so all the light blue is gone, but there was some sky in the window. This is definitely at least one of Nadine's outfits for the book. And here is Nadine all dressed up for fencing. I think I will change the skort thing up a bit. And the copic marker blue is so much darker than that. But I think I will add some gold embroidery along the blue edges of the skirt instead of black and give her gold buttons instead of black. As you can see, I also haven't decided on an eye color yet. Her hair will also be more yellow than red. Boy copics scan weird.

Family Portrait
Yo. I will be at Jet City Comic Show on Saturday. Booth AA07 as Flying Dodo Publications. And here are some drawings from Drink and Draw last night.
Family Portrait by ~lunavalse on deviantART
And here's a weird dude, probably high Abe mentioned to me later after hearing the story. He was waiting to cross the crosswalk and kept starting then would look around and stay where he was. And the whole time I was waiting at the light, he was tucking the shirt in his hand into the back of his pants.

Jeff Lemire
I read a bunch of Jeff Lemire on the weekend (over art vacation) and got inspired by his style. Namely, Sweet Tooth 3 and some of Essex County. So this is what happened.
I might finally have a style that works for the Great Beard story, which is unfortunately penciled on paper that bleeds when I use a nib but is fine with a brush. This was my first drawing in this style. I tried to draw Jim but I couldn't see his face so it looks like Jim if he were a farmer or a mass murderer (that's what Abe said).

Art vacation
I am currently on an art vacation at my mom's. Well, I am currently in her car waiting for her to deliver some work for her graphic design business. But before that I went to cosmic Comics in Bellingham and they now sell our comics. And yesterday we went to The Comics Place in bellingham and they also sell our comics now. Good times for the peopl of bellingham.
The tapir is the first finished art of mine on this vacation. Already have another one done of emus. And I hae started other paintings of a redd tree kangaroo, an axlotl, and river otter. And I penciled a comic about a fight between two red footed tortoises.
Off to dakota art for art supplies since I just got paid. :D

Sleepy and more
First, a note. Flying Dodo Publications is down for a bit for lame reasons. But when it is up, you should go read my posts about our trip to Stumptown Comic Fest, the best comic thing to go to. One is up and another will go up when I can get back on the site.
So as you can see, I have been doing stuff, I guess I just need to get back into the practice of posting it. :| But my IT guy is busy with school so it starts to pile up.

INKtober day 31
First up, I did this last night. Based off this great dress.
This is from Halloween. This was inspired by Lucy Knisley dressed as a squid for Halloween. (She's an awesome cartoonist, fyi.)
Bat Girl costume based on this adorable costume from Ye Olde Fashion.
And of course, because I am addicted to it, this lady from The Sartorialist.

INKtober Day 20
First up, a practice commission for my mom; she asked for a self portrait. Now that it is done, I wish I had added more to it,like Ernie and a table or two and a lap.
And a Sartorialist I tried to draw a little more cartoony.

INKtober Day 6
Yay! More Gertrude. Boy these are fun to do. So much inking. I think I have to use some wallpaper sometime in there though.
Another one from The Sartorialist. These are really fun to do with the water brush filled with ink.

INKtober Day 4
Harry Potter, looking like a tool. I apologized to him already.
Some MidSomer Murders fan art of Chief Inspector Barnaby. I don't think Detective is part of his title, but I don't want to look in case there are spoilers. I am loving that show.
Wonder Woman with her lasso. Not sure why I give her such wild hair.

INKtober Day 3
The second of 2 Wonder Woman drawings I did last night. I have a short story I want to do, so I should really practice her. I have to keep looking up references because even though I can always recognize her, I can't say the pieces of her costume. Hope I got them all.
I love this one, except what happened to her face?! I figure a flying cat would just limpy hang from it's own heard. I learned how to do clouds from looking at Skottie Young's amazing work. Here are some doodles and ink scratches. It says "Rock out with your Doc out." A quote from a co-worker. Makes me laugh every time. And that is a pencil sticking out of the crotch.

New Gertrude
Finally a new Gertrude comic. I have another couple in mind.
Gertrude loves calamari by ~lunavalse on deviantART
I also doodled the following when I was watching Ponyo (for my second time) with Abe. That is a great movie. I hope someday to create stories as wonderful as those by Studio Ghibli.

Producing a linocut comic
I posted about making the linocut prints for my new comic Ooh, Shiny! What a time consuming project. Still working on it. I have two pages to write (but 8 copies, 1 copy for each book). Then I have to print the covers, cut the Davey board, prepare the covers, and bind the books. Soon. Soon.

Coyote and chicken
I am getting ready to do a short comic about chickens and coyotes so I drew this to practice and see if I liked the style I had pictured in my mind. I do. I am actually pretty pleased and I think this comic will end up pretty awesome. It is based off something I wrote in junior high. Maybe even grade school.
Coyote and Chicken by ~lunavalse on deviantART
You know what else I did tonight, I already made a 4 panel sumi-e comic. 4 pieces of paper so we'll have to bring it to my mom's and Abe can prepare it there.
